GE Global Operations, a division of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), will layoff 147 finance and insurance employees in Jacksonville in January, according to a notice filed with the state of Florida.
The last day for the employees at GE’s Kenan Drive office will be Jan. 12, the same day the company is laying off 63 in Wisconsin. All of the affected employees have been offered a comparable third-party position locally, said Carrie Phillippi, communications program manager for GE Global Operations.
GE, a 126-year-old conglomerate that was once the most valuable U.S. corporation, is shedding disparate business units as it addresses major debt issues. TIAA Bank purchased $1.5 billion in loans and leases from GE Capital earlier this month.
